we do the little things
Do this, please. Glance over these Bible stories and look for a common theme.
Exodus 17 ~ Joshua was fighting against Israel’s enemies. As long Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning. So when his arms grew tired, Aaron and Hur held his hands up.
Joshua 3:15-16 ~ When the Israelites were ready enter the Promised Land, the Jordan river was at flood stage. But when the feet of the priests carrying the Ark touched the water’s edge, the water upstream stopped flowing & piled up a great distance away.
Matthew 9:20 ~ A woman who had been subject to bleeding for 12 years came up behind Jesus & touched the edge of His cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed.”
Matthew 10:42 ~ Jesus promised, “If anyone gives a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, he will certainly not lose his reward.”
John 6:9 ~ A crowd of 5,000 people came out to hear Jesus teach. Yet when a boy offered his lunch of 5 small barley loaves and 2 small fish, everyone had enough to eat … and 12 baskets were filled with what was left over.
John 21:6 ~ Several of Jesus’ followers fished all night without catching any fish. Jesus told them to throw their net on the right side of the boat. When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.
Did you notice what each event had in common with the others? When we do the little things that we can do … when God’s people respond in faith, love and obedience to the little things He asks us to do … the results can be amazing!
Our Lord isn’t asking us to do the big stuff. That’s His domain. But He does invite us to do little things.
What’s He asking of you today? And what might He be ready to accomplish?
